I grew up watching people play Minecraft, so I always had a rigid of idea of how the game should be played. As such, it made me enjoy the game way less. I could never enjoy my building skills because I was always comparing it to the things that I have seen people made online (a recipe to never be satisfied).
This server marked a change with how I approached Minecraft. I would try and do away with the preconcieved notions of how the game should be played, at least with building things. I wanted to embrace a less planned, more kinetic level of creativity. I wanted to build things rather than build "good" things. I was reasonaly successful.
I haphazardly built my house and was going to just keep adding rooms onto it forever.
The balcony of the raised platform in my house.
I thought that there needed to be an ominous spire on the landscape, so I made one.
Right in front of my house were some of the other builds that my friends made.
I like the cliff platforms that one of my friends was making.
I saw this cave that was nearby my house and I thought that it would be cool to make a base inside of it. I wanted to clear out the water first, though.
Clearing out the water by sectioning it off with sand and using sponges. A recurring activity across other worlds.
Eventually, I drained all of the water.
Then I had to clear out the stone that held the water.
The end result was a big pit in a cave.
Quite a long way up.
I started sketching out ideas for walkways that would go to various parts of the cave. No real plans, just doing what felt right.
I eventually settled on a layout of platforms. I would have kept developing this area, but alas, we stopped playing a couple of days after. I like the cave idea though.
