FALLSTRUKTUR
by Fynn Levy, Rollin'Barrel, Stuffed Wombat
Finished: ✓A short, free game about falling but not too much.
You are trying to descend this giant structure. If you fall too far, then you die and have to restart. You have to judge how far things are and drop down in order to progress. The character has quite a bit of bounciness and inertia, so you have to account for trying to fall onto slopes or else you will ping off of them and die.
The world is interconnected, but the different areas each have a different atmosphere to them. There are a bunch of different ways to go, so descending has this improvisational feel. It's fun building a mental map of the entire world as you fall, die, and fall again. I really like the sprawling, nonsensical landscape, and the blocky visuals. It evokes the feeling of being in a very dreamlike, dense world with many different things to see. I got this far in the writing before I mentioned the popular Minecraft Challenge Map of a similar idea: The Dropper. Much like The Dropper, the environment in FALLSTRUKTUR feels like a well-crafted set piece rather than a natural environment. Everything feels fine tuned and deliberately placed, like a perfect moment captured in time.
The game comes with a level editor and steam workshop support so it's easy to make your own levels and play ones that other people have made. Cool!
Overall good vibes
