Will LLMs change cultural language development?
I wonder if LLMs will change the way in which English evolves over time.
The things that people read (and the way that they are written) influence the way that they write. When people use these tools, they are, in some ways, enforcing certain ways of speaking as “normal”, “proper”, or “acceptable”. So, if LLMs are widely adopted and much of the text we read is generated from them, then will that change the way that we write and speak?
I wonder what the larger consequences of “AI” generated news articles, books, and learning resources would be for new learners of English, or even for those that are not confident in their writing and speaking.
