Video games just take so much effort to create
The more I try and develop games, the more I realize that it’s honestly like an excruciating amount of work.
There’s this video series on YouTube called “Unremarkable and odd things you never looked at” by Any Austin. They go through video games and just look at random stuff: things that you were never really meant to look at with more scrutiny than a passing glance.
The series makes me appreciate the sheer effort and time and skill it takes to develop games. Every detail that you see had to have been considered at some point in the development process.
There’s a classic bit of writing on game design called “The Door Problem”.
Something as simple as putting a door in a video game opens a pandora’s box of tiny decisions.
It’s honestly amazing that video games exist at all.
