Linktree thoughts
I’ve never used Linktree before, so maybe this is a “I love complaining about things that I know nothing about” situation, though it’s not really a complaint about Linktree itself.
Linktree as a service is fine, but it's sad to me because I see it as a kind of distillation of personal spaces on the internet to it's "most useful" parts.
You can have nice customization, but ultimately the purpose of the personal space you make with Linktree is to direct people to other platforms (mostly social media or store pages).
It essentially acts like a signpost that you can decorate and guides people to the stuff that """really matters""".
That signpost being the one thing that you have the most control over.
I’m a big supporter of having personal websites because I value the ability to have a space that I can use as a medium for self expression (it’s quite fun!).
While useful, Linktree shows how personal spaces on the internet will always have the backseat compared to all but the most popular and widespread social media platforms.
