Hold on to Anything
"At the end of everything, hold on to anything" is a quote from Night in the Woods. I don't think that it's actually present in the game, but it's basically the tagline of the game and appears in some promotional material for it.
It's a quote that has stuck with me ever since I heard it. I use it as a mantra that helps me get through difficult days in my life. When I feel that I have nothing else to turn to, remembering this saying gives me some sort of strength to continue.
The quote gives me a feeling of resilience, but also of deep sadness.
It's not an appeal for hope; It's not encouraging you to believe that things will get better, or rallying you to fight with everything you have.
Holding on to anything is simply the last thing that you do when you have nothing left: when you have lost all the footholds that could keep you steady. If you were in this situation, then you were already slipping.
You were already at the threshold, and your only options are to hold on, or to be swept away. There are no other possible outcomes.
And so, I continue to hold on. I hold on because it's the only thing that I can do.
